What's New: Manage and Conserve Storm Water
Message from the Chair: Winter 2022
I would like to thank all our members that supported AMBA for 2021. It was a tough year for most with floods in BC shutting down major supply chains and the pandemic not showing any end. Construction continues to become more and more difficult with extremely long lead times on materials and equipment, labour shortages, higher supply costs and a very competitive market.
State of the Industry: January 2022
Over the past year, the national inflation rate has increased over 4%. Global steel prices continue to strengthen due to supply constraints and soaring demand. Metal building manufacturers have been plagued with labour and material shortages, supply chain disruptions, and rapidly increasing raw material costs. Surprisingly, steep construction prices have not thwarted record setting demand. Metal building manufacturers are experiencing extended delivery schedules, with many fabrication plants scheduled out to the end of 2022. Full production capacities have led to manufacturers being selective on what projects fill their plants, adding more fuel to pre-engineered building (PEB) prices. It could be well into 2023 before manufacturers can adjust plant capacities, labour shortages and chew through their backlog before we see any relief. Unfortunately, the staggering cost of PEBs is closing the gap on alternate building solutions like pre-cast and conventional structures.
AMBA Membership Committee Update: January 2022
I imagine we all want to make a collective New Year’s Resolution to just put the last two years behind us. While we all hopefully enjoyed a good Christmas break, the bone chilling cold certainly kept my family from participating in lengthy outdoor activities. Given the challenges we are all facing, 2021 was still a positive year for AMBA as we held onto existing members and welcomed several new companies to the fold.
What's New: Wall Liner Panel for wash bays. It’s a wash…
Engineered custom metal buildings are a great solution for shops containing wash bays, because they can economically accommodate large spanning frames with high interior clearances and interior partition walls to separate wash bays. Properly designed wash bays are essential to maintain the building lifespan and eliminate dangerous mold growth.
Project Profile: Tingley’s Harvest Center
For over 20 years, Tingley’s Harvest Center has been dedicated to providing agriculture farm equipment sales and service to farmers throughout Alberta. With a growing Ag market, Tingley’s reached out to local contractor, Bexson Construction, to provide preliminary drawings, a budget and construction for a new facility in Lloydminster, Alberta. The project had strict design requirements to meet dealership criteria with a flat roof system and a conventionally framed structure.
Project Profile: Northern Lakes College
Northern Lakes College (NLC) services more than 50 communities across northern Alberta, including fifteen First Nations and four Métis Settlements. With the College’s main campus in Slave Lake and satellite campuses located throughout Northwestern Alberta, NLC is able to deliver quality, diverse and affordable educational programs to remote northern communities.
Executive Director Report: Winter 2022
Happy New Year to all. A new year brings optimism for better days ahead. Let us hope we are in the FINAL Covid wave! One of the first nations, South Africa, to be hit with the Omicron virus has now reported a steep decline in new cases. Let's hope for a similar trajectory in Alberta and the rest of the world!
