I would like to thank everyone that participated at the 2021 AMBA Golf Tournament at the Ranch Golf and Country Club. Special thanks to Tamara Hudson, Linda Giesinger, and John Weran for organizing this great event. We are also going to be scheduling our 2022 Annual General Meeting and are looking for suggestions on venue/location. Please email info@albertametalbuildings.com with your suggestions by end of November, as we will be discussing it at our December board meeting.

Not surprising that 2021 continues to throw curve balls at the world! To start, I would like to advise our members that your AMBA board of directors continues to volunteer their time for the betterment of our industry! We had our first in person meeting this year on September 2 and recently held a very successful golf tournament. We continue to monitor any changes to our apprenticeship programs resulting from the proclamation of Bill 67.

Well, after almost a year and a half of an altered state of reality, it was a real pleasure to get together on Thursday Sept 16th at the Ranch for our 2021 AMBA Golf Tournament. Although the morning started out a little chilly, the weather cooperated and everyone had a good time reconnecting with fellow steel building stalwarts. Kudos to the organizing committee and especially to Linda for a great selection of what seemed like unending prizes to hand out.

Thank you to the Ranch Golf & Country Club, located in Acheson, Alberta, for hosting us.
We had a cool and windy start to our morning, but as we headed into the early afternoon things started to warm up. A great turnout with 48 golfers. It sure was nice finally being able to get together with all our industry partners to enjoy golf, dinner and socializing!

Internal ownership transfers remain the predominant methodology in the construction industry, with over two-thirds of [survey] respondents saying that they intend to transfer equity to employees, family or both. Properly structured internal transfers can be a great source of liquidity for owners and continuity for the business, but they require up to 10 years longer to execute than an external sale. This is because internal sales often require new owners to buy equity over time; and if earnings are reduced or capital is needed to fund operations, the process can take even longer.

At Western Constructors, we feel that it’s important to keep you up to date with the latest trends in our industry. One of the recent trends in construction, and one we’ve been mentioning on our blog recently, is the use of custom steel buildings and prefabricated metal buildings. More and more often, people are choosing to go with custom steel buildings for agriculture, storage space, and even for their offices and homes.

It is hard to believe that that we have been living with COVID-19 for a year and a half. We have endured three waves of the disease thus far and have yet to reach the peak of the worst fourth wave. Although we have a ticket to freedom from lockdowns; ironically, many eligible Albertan’s are still reluctant to accept the vaccine. As our hospitals fill to the brim and more ICU beds are added, the cracks in our health care system are evident. Our government had no alternative but to act.
