Darren Resch started in the Metal Building industry in the mid '90's when he joined his father, Jerry Resch, at Therm-all Insulation Ltd. Therm-all was a supplier of Metal Building Insulation to the Western Canadian Market since 1981.
After Therm-all was sold to Winalta Shelters Inc., Darren and his partner John Trapp, formed Total-R Inc. in 2001. Total-R also specialized in Metal Building Insulation, with manufacturing under Darren's watchful eye in Calgary and offices in Edmonton and Vancouver. After a successful start-up, Total-R was able to acquire the assets of Therm-all from Winalta Shelters in 2003.
Under Darren's leadership, Total-R grew to add Roxul (now Rockwool) as a valuable product line for 1 and 2-hour rated firewall assemblies, along with a variety of other building envelope solutions. Darren continued to invest in Total-R's product offering to provide the best value insulation solutions to meet the evolving energy codes while keeping metal building insulation systems competitive.
In November 2014, Darren became the sole owner of Total-R, acquiring John Trapp's shares, when John moved to the contracting side of the industry. Darren successfully navigated the many ups and downs of the uncertain Canadian market, culminating with the sale of Total-R to Silvercote in 2020.
Darren's day-to-day presence will be missed in the industry and by the Total-R employees. The AMBA Board will also miss Darren’s support and contributions to the metal building industry. Relationships have always been Darren's priority, along with his calm and steady demeanour.
Although Darren has retired from the insulation side of the business, he remains actively involved in building affordable homes for Veterans across Canada, serving on the board of directors for the Homes for Heroes Foundation.
Thank you, Darren, for making a difference! We wish you and your family the best in your retirement.
