The Legend has retired!!!
Congratulations Ralph Ward
With a career spanning over 70 years, and recently celebrating a 90th birthday, Ralph Ward has decided to retire and spend more time traveling and golfing.
Ralph spent 23 years of his career at Butler Manufacturing in various sales and marketing executive leadership roles, living and working in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Kirkcaldy Scotland. After spending 3 years in Edmonton, as Vice President of Butler’s Western Canadian region, Ralph settled in Red Deer in 1986 when he acquired Scott Builders. Under Ralph’s leadership, Scott Builders developed into one of Canada’s top contractors and currently ranks as one of the top 10 most successful Butler Builders globally! In addition to earning multiple Butler sales awards, Ralph served on Butler’s Builder Advisory council, providing valuable input and guidance on Butler products and services.
Aside from building a successful contracting company, Ralph worked with industry competitors to establish a secure metal building industry in Alberta through the formation of the Alberta Metal Building Association (AMBA). In the early 1990’s, the Ironworker Union lobbied the provincial government to designate the Ironworker Occupation as a compulsory trade. At the time, there were no unionized metal building erection companies. Limiting metal building erection to a compulsory trade would have had a detrimental effect on the supply and construction of metal buildings in the province. Ralph and Roger Geisinger (Clark Builders Metal Building Manager) served as Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively, on the AMBA board. Although Ralph and Roger were vigorous competitors, they worked tirelessly for our industry to establish the Metal Building System Erector training program we know today!
We thank Ralph for his dedication and service to our industry. We wish you a happy retirement Ralph with many a hole in one!
