Assembling, installing or disassembling non-residential, prefabricated metal structures in Alberta is a designated trade and there are specific activities within this trade that require a journeyperson certificate.
As defined by Alberta’s OHS legislation and enacted by the Designated Trades and Restricted Activities Regulation, it may be the obligation of employers, supervisors, contractors, prime contractors and owners to ensure that any person engaging in prefabricated metal structure construction on their building site is a certified Ironworker Metal Building Systems Erector (MBSE) journeyperson or a registered MBSE apprentice working under the supervision of a certified MBSE journeyperson.
