MBSE APPRENTICES NEEDED!!!
Alberta is in urgent need of apprentice MBSE Ironworkers. Every erector and contractor that I have talked to are all short staffed and are having a lot of difficulty attracting new employees into the trade. The metal building erector shortage is compounded by aging journeymen and erector companies retiring. Finding new apprentices is going to be extremely difficult, as it appears that most industries and trades are short staffed. The effect of very low numbers of new apprentices into the Ironworker trade will result in reduced program offerings at Alberta training institutions – this will be devastating for our industry.
At the most recent AMBA board meeting, the board was all in agreeance that our number one priority is to work on getting new employees into the trade and into schooling, but we will need our members’ help on how we can assist. Please reach out to the Board with your thoughts and ideas through email: info@albertametalbuildings.com – every idea needs to be put on the table at this stage. AMBA has significantly increased the bursary for new apprentices attending school, but that likely won’t move the needle a whole lot – we need your help!
We understand that sending employees to school is extremely difficult when we are already short on erectors; however, a sustainable supply of certified MBSE journeymen is a long-term solution to help keep qualified people in the trade and metal buildings cost competitive. Supporting your employees’ career goals through Journeyman certification will help with employee retainment and increase your employee’s pay scale and performance. And your company will reap the benefit of your investment.
