It’s hard to think of a time in the last 50 years that compares to what we are currently going through! We have a major war in Europe, struggled with 2 years of a global pandemic and are now experiencing the worst round of inflation in a long time!
Despite all that, there is an economic rebound underway. Having just returned from a trip to Europe, people are traveling again. There is a huge pent-up demand for tourism, evident by passport delays and airlines struggling to handle the increasing volume of travellers.
On the home front, the Alberta provincial government just announced an annual surplus of $3.9 billion after forecasting a deficit of $18 billion! And we thought weathermen were bad forecasters!!! The energy sector is awash in cash. While they have been reluctant to make new project investments, surely there will be a surge in revitalizing current assets. Alberta is also looking at major investments in carbon capture, hydrogen and other unique energy sector opportunities.
As we emerge from the current situation, hopefully we will see some stability on the horizon. Hang on as the ride isn’t over yet!
