AMBA Summer 2020 Update
Summer 2020 Newsletter
Message from the Chairman of the Board
As you are all now aware, we have cancelled the Golf Tournament for 2020. We have a booking for next year, June 17, 2021. I have golfed in all of the tournaments since 2004 and sure do miss this one. I hope we all can come out of this Coronavirus outbreak in good health and get back to our normal workloads and recreational activities soon. Please stay safe and have a great summer.
John Weran
Chairman, AMBA

The strength of our association relies on a strong membership that collectively represents a cross section of our industry. AMBA continues to remain a strong unified voice for our members, who are actively involved in the Steel Building Systems market across the province.

As we work through this current pandemic, many are looking inward and reviewing their businesses and overheads very carefully.

INDUSTRY NEWS
In the past decade, Alberta has experienced three deep recessions. With the prolonged oil price slump and persistent unemployment Alberta’s economy was already struggling; COVID-19 has stalled economic recovery further. Many Alberta businesses do not have the cash flow to weather this crisis and government hand-outs may not be enough to provide financial stability.
Ironworker Provincial Apprenticeship Committee (PAC)
Due to COVID-19 the PAC has not been able to meet this year.

The Committee welcomes new incoming manager, Roland Carignan. Roland has experience in Program Management, government administration, and holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) focused in Cognitive Psychology and Psycho-linguistics from University of Alberta.

Dean Murray was elected as the new Presiding Officer. Dean is a Business Agent with Ironworkers Local 720 and has a demonstrated history of working in the construction industry.

We look forward to working with both Roland and Dean.
FMI recently released the Second Quarter 2020 Construction Outlook Report, which provides construction forecast by market segments.
The Calgary Construction Association, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, Alberta Construction Association and Industry partners, has produced a helpful guide to Pandemic Planning for the Construction Industry.
